The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban Standards and Quality Authority has signed a $46,348,292 contract with TCRC Company to construct and equip advanced laboratory complexes at the country’s capital and nine major border crossings.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the media center on Wednesday, according to the authority’s Director-General Faizullah Tamim.
Tamim said the project will be implemented over five years and includes the establishment of laboratory facilities in Kabul and nine border points. The labs will test construction materials, electrical equipment, and goods related to textiles, leather, and paper industries.
He added that the company will also provide training programs for staff of the authority to strengthen technical capacity in quality control and standards enforcement.
According to Tamim, the project aims to prevent the import of substandard goods and ensure that only quality products enter the Afghan market.
He said the initiative comes at a time when the control of imported goods remains a significant challenge in Afghanistan, with traders and consumers frequently complaining about low-quality products in the market.
Experts say the lack of standardized testing laboratories has weakened regulatory oversight, allowing goods to enter the country without proper evaluation. They add that the establishment of modern laboratory complexes could improve monitoring systems and strengthen confidence in the country’s trade and import sector.
