The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Amnesty International has called for a thorough investigation into an explosion in Kabul’s Dasht-e-Barchi area that injured at least 42 school students, urging authorities to ensure accountability and protect civilians.

The explosion occurred Monday evening.

Amnesty International said the reports were deeply disturbing and called on the Taliban, Afghanistan’s de facto authorities, to ensure the protection of civilians, including religious and ethnic minorities.

The rights group said the incident should be investigated in a “thorough, effective, independent and impartial” manner in line with international law and standards. It also said those suspected of responsibility must be brought to justice in fair trials.

Amnesty did not provide casualty figures, focusing instead on calling for accountability and stronger protection for civilians.

The explosion adds to longstanding concerns over insecurity in Afghanistan, particularly in areas populated by the Hazara community.
