The Kabul Tribune (KT)— Afghanistan’s Taliban-run meteorological department has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, flash floods and strong winds across 12 provinces on Sunday, as authorities urged residents to take precautions.
The Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport
and Aviation issued the warning Saturday, forecasting between 10 and 35
millimeters of rain in different areas.
The affected provinces include Panjshir, Paktia, Paktika,
Khost, Logar, Ghazni, Baghlan, Takhar, Badakhshan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan,
according to the warning.
Residents Urged to Avoid Riverbanks
Authorities urged residents in the affected areas to take
necessary precautions and avoid riverbanks and other locations vulnerable to
flash floods.
The warning also called on local officials to prepare for
possible flooding and take measures to reduce risks and manage the effects of
heavy rainfall.
Recent Floods Cause Damage
Heavy rains and flash floods have caused damage in several
parts of Afghanistan in recent months.
Earlier this month, residents of Panjshir, Parwan, Logar and
Khost reported flooding following heavy rainfall and said the floods had caused
losses and damage to local communities.
Afghanistan is particularly vulnerable to flash floods
during periods of heavy seasonal rainfall, with limited infrastructure and
difficult terrain complicating emergency response in many areas.
