The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan's passport has been ranked the world's weakest in the 2026 Global Passport Index, placing last among 197 countries, according to a new report published by international advisory firm Global Citizen Solutions.
The index ranks passports based on visa-free travel access,
investment opportunities and overall quality of life, providing a broader
assessment of global mobility and international standing.
Afghanistan received 23.10 points out of 100, placing it at
the bottom of the global rankings and highlighting the significant travel
restrictions and limited international mobility faced by Afghan passport
holders.
Sweden topped the 2026 index with 96.05 points, followed by
Switzerland, Finland, Germany and the Netherlands.
Other countries ranked among the world's weakest passports
include Somalia, South Sudan, Yemen and Syria.
The Global Passport Index is published annually to assess
the international strength of passports by evaluating travel freedom alongside
economic and migration-related indicators.
