The Kabul Tribune (KT) — U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the country's devastating disaster, saying the scenes of destruction were "truly heartbreaking."
In a post on X, Guterres said urgent humanitarian assistance would be critical as humanitarian needs continue to evolve.
He added that the United Nations system, working alongside its partners and the Venezuelan government, is scaling up life-saving assistance and will spare no effort to support those in need.
Venezuela has been grappling with the aftermath of powerful earthquakes that caused widespread destruction, killed hundreds of people, injured thousands, and displaced many more. Rescue teams continue searching for survivors while humanitarian agencies are expanding emergency relief operations to provide shelter, medical care, food and other essential assistance to affected communities.
