The Kabul Tribune (KT) — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that the world can no longer outrun climate change, saying its impacts are already being felt across the globe and are reshaping development, stability and security.

In a post on X, Guterres stressed the need for stronger responses to the growing climate crisis, emphasizing that adaptation measures are essential rather than optional.

“Adaptation is not charity. It is essential,” he said, adding that climate adaptation efforts save lives, protect communities and help maintain social cohesion.

The UN chief's remarks come as countries worldwide face increasingly severe climate-related challenges, including extreme weather events, rising temperatures, floods, droughts and displacement, which continue to affect millions of people.

Guterres has repeatedly called for greater international cooperation and investment in climate adaptation and resilience, particularly for vulnerable communities that are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change.
