The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran has said no final decision has been made on a potential peace agreement with the United States, despite optimism expressed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Reuters reported.
According to the report, Trump said a deal to end the
conflict could be signed as soon as this weekend and would lead to the
reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to global shipping.
However, Iranian officials said negotiations are still
ongoing. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said large parts of the
agreement have been finalized but stressed that Tehran would not compromise on
its key conditions.
“We have not reached a final conclusion on this matter,”
Baghaei said, adding that the issue remains under review by relevant
authorities.
The potential deal, if reached, would mark a major step
toward ending the conflict, which has lasted for several months and disrupted
global energy markets.
Recent days have seen renewed exchanges of strikes between
the two sides, despite a fragile ceasefire announced earlier, raising concerns about
further escalation.
Iran has demanded the lifting of sanctions, access to frozen
assets, and recognition of its position in the Strait of Hormuz, while the
United States has insisted any agreement must prevent Iran from developing
nuclear weapons.
Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with regional and
international actors closely watching developments.
