The Kabul Tribune (KT) — UNESCO says cultural diversity plays a vital role in strengthening dialogue among societies, enhancing mutual understanding, and achieving sustainable development.
In a statement issued Thursday, May 21, marking the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, the organization emphasized the importance of culture in fostering peace and global cooperation.
According to UNESCO, cultural diversity helps individuals build stronger connections with one another and encourages greater collaboration and solidarity in addressing global challenges.
The organization added that the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is observed annually on May 21, aiming to highlight the role of intercultural dialogue in promoting peace and sustainable development worldwide.
The report noted that the United Nations first declared the day in 2002, following the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity in 2001 by UNESCO.
The declaration underscores the need to strengthen culture as a tool for achieving prosperity, sustainable development, and peaceful global coexistence.
