The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran has condemned the seizure of two oil tankers linked to the country by the United States, describing the move as “piracy” and “armed robbery in international waters.”
Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said the action amounted to a clear attempt to legitimize maritime theft.
In a post on X, he wrote that the incident represents an “open legalization of piracy in international waters,” adding: “Welcome back to piracy — except now it operates with official permits, sails under formal flags, and calls its plunder law enforcement.”
The comments came after both U.S. and Iranian military officials confirmed the seizure of commercial vessels, amid ongoing tensions between the two countries over maritime security.
