The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Fox News reported that the suspect involved in the shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., has been arrested after being armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun and several knives, according to the city’s police chief.

Authorities said the suspect attempted to breach a security checkpoint before being intercepted by members of the United States Secret Service.

“As he ran through that checkpoint, members of law enforcement from the United States Secret Service intercepted that individual,” the police chief said.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that an exchange of gunfire followed. A Secret Service Uniformed Division officer was struck in a protective vest during the incident but is reported to be in stable condition.

“The officer seems to be in good spirits at this time,” the police chief added.

Officials said the suspect was not struck by gunfire and is now in custody. Preliminary findings indicate that he acted alone, with authorities describing him as a “lone actor.”
