The Kabul Tribune (KT) — U.S. President Donald J. Trump said Iran does not want
the Strait of Hormuz closed, claiming the country prefers it to remain open to
sustain oil revenues, while also issuing a stark warning about the consequences
of any future agreement.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran “doesn’t want the
Strait of Hormuz closed” and argued that Tehran could lose an estimated $500
million a day if the key maritime route were shut. He claimed Iran’s calls for
keeping the strait open are intended to “save face.”
Trump further stated that individuals had recently
approached him saying Iran wanted the strait reopened immediately. However, he
warned that if such steps were taken, it could jeopardize any potential
agreement with Iran.
He also said that without what he described as a strong approach,
“there can never be a deal with Iran,” adding that otherwise it would require
“blowing up the rest of their country and their leaders,” without providing
further details.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil
supplies, has long been a strategic flashpoint in regional tensions.
