The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban said they have created a new database for media, as journalists and media organizations raise concerns that such measures could further restrict access to information and press freedom.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief spokesperson, said in a statement Sunday that the platform was designed to present the administration’s achievements and progress while allowing reporters faster access to needed information.

He described public access to information as important and said providing accurate details could “neutralize enemy propaganda” and positively affect people’s lives and the country’s overall situation.

Mujahid also called on spokespersons from various Taliban-run institutions to upload verified and timely information to the database so media outlets can rely on a single, credible source.

However, Afghan media outlets say they continue to face delays and obstacles in accessing information, with some expressing concern that centralized control of information could further limit independent reporting.

The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban said they have established an information bank to facilitate easier access to official data for media outlets, according to a statement delivered on Sunday.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the platform was created to better present the group’s achievements and developments, enabling journalists to obtain relevant information more efficiently.

He described public access to information as important, adding that providing accurate data helps counter what he called “enemy propaganda” and that effective communication has a positive impact on people’s lives and the overall situation in the country.

Mujahid also tasked spokespersons across Taliban-run institutions with submitting verified and timely information to the database, so media organizations can rely on a single credible source.

Despite the announcement, Afghan media outlets continue to report challenges in accessing information, saying they often face delays and difficulties in obtaining necessary data from authorities.
