The Kabul Tribune (KT) — António Guterres has strongly condemned an attack on United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) that killed one French peacekeeper and injured three others.
In a statement shared on social media, Guterres expressed his “deepest condolences” to the family, friends and colleagues of the slain peacekeeper and wished a “full and fast recovery” to those wounded.
He said the incident marks the third attack in recent weeks that has resulted in the deaths of peacekeepers serving in Lebanon, raising concerns about the safety of international forces deployed in the region.
“These attacks must stop,” Guterres said, urging all parties involved in the conflict to respect the cessation of hostilities and adhere to the existing ceasefire.
UNIFIL, established to monitor peace along the Lebanon-Israel border, has faced increasing risks amid ongoing regional tensions and sporadic clashes.
