The Kabul Tribune (KT) — More than 25 people were killed and over 80 others wounded on the Afghan side during fierce clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops along the Spin Boldak-Chaman border crossing, health sources in Kandahar told The Kabul Tribune on Wednesday.
Health sources said the casualties were all Afghan civilians.
The fighting erupted early Wednesday morning around 4:00 a.m. and has since paused, according to local sources. Residents said the exchange of heavy and light weapons forced many families to flee their homes as the situation rapidly deteriorated.
Commercial markets and customs offices in the border area
were shut down amid the violence. Local reports said the Mazel Guli secondary
gate in Spin Boldak — located along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border — was
destroyed in an explosion.
Witnesses described widespread panic and damage to homes in
the area, with emergency workers struggling to reach the wounded. The Taliban
reportedly deployed reinforcements to the border, and some sources said the
group may have targeted the Chaman crossing with explosives.
Hafez Saeed, the Taliban’s police commissioner in Spin
Boldak, claimed that Pakistani forces suffered both human and material losses.
He said the situation remains tense despite a pause in active fighting.
