The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Two small water dams have been completed in Helmand’s Nawa Zad district with financial support from the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), officials from the Taliban’s Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to the directorate, the project cost 4,332,096
Afghanis and has now been handed over for public use. Officials said the dams
can store a combined 12,810 cubic meters of water, helping irrigate around
1,000 jiribs of farmland and directly benefiting 730 families.
They noted that the new structures are expected to improve
local water management and support agricultural productivity in the district.
