The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A local leader of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) was shot dead in North Waziristan, prompting strong condemnation from party officials who blamed Taliban militants for the attack.
NDM Central Chairman Mohsin Dawar said party worker Zaheer
Dawar was “martyred in Musaki, North Waziristan last night by Taliban
terrorists.” He said Pakistan had “become a slaughterhouse for Pashtun youth."
Pakistan has long accused the Afghan Taliban of supporting
and providing safe havens to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is
blamed for attacks on the country’s security forces and political elites.
NDM Islamabad Chairman Mansour Khan also condemned
the killing, calling it a “brutal and inhumane act” and part of an ongoing wave
of violence against Pashtuns. He said the attack was not only the killing of an
individual but a “direct assault on democratic and political freedoms in North
Waziristan.”
The party demanded an immediate and transparent
investigation from the government and security institutions.
No independent confirmation of responsibility for the attack
was immediately available.
