The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan has received its first shipment of diesel fuel via the Khaf–Herat railway line from Iran, the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works said Monday.

According to ministry spokesperson Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, 20 wagons carrying a total of 1,120 tons of diesel arrived Sunday evening at the Roznak station in Herat province. The shipment belongs to a private Afghan company.

Haqshenas said the Taliban administration aims to expand railway projects and develop Afghanistan’s rail network to make trade and transportation easier for Afghan businesses.

The announcement follows recent agreements between the Taliban and officials from Iran and Turkey to enhance cooperation in transit and railway development.
