The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, said he held a “constructive and in-depth” meeting with Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on the sidelines of the Moscow Format consultations on Afghanistan, focusing on trade, transit, and regional security.
In a statement Tuesday, Sadiq said the 90-minute discussion
centered on advancing bilateral cooperation in key areas of mutual interest,
including economic engagement, regional connectivity, and counterterrorism.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of enhancing regional
trade and agreed to explore practical measures to facilitate commerce and
transit — such as improving infrastructure links and streamlining customs
procedures.
Sadiq said the talks also addressed the presence of terrorist
groups in the region and their impact on cross-border trade and security. “The
two sides underscored the need for sustained dialogue and collaboration to
address shared security concerns, ensure the safety of transport routes, and
combat illicit activities,” he said.
The meeting came as regional countries participating in the
Moscow Format — including Russia, China, Iran, and Pakistan — discussed
security, counterterrorism, and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan under
Taliban rule.
