The Kabul Tribune (KT) — More than 97,000 metric tons of commercial goods were imported or exported through Afghanistan’s railways over the past week, the Taliban-run Ministry of Public Works said Sunday.
Ashraf Haqshenas, a ministry spokesperson, said a total of 97,522
metric tons of goods were transported through the country’s main railway
routes, including 73,825 tons via the Hairatan port and 2,042 tons through the
Aqina port.
He said the shipments included petroleum, non-petroleum, and
other commercial products, with 327 tons of the total consisting of exports —
mostly dried fruits and pomegranate juice.
Haqshenas said the increase in trade through Afghanistan’s
rail network has created more jobs, raised national revenues, and contributed
to economic stability and self-sufficiency.
