The Kabul Tribune (KT) —The Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce has described Iran’s Chabahar Port as an important and reliable alternative route for Afghanistan’s trade and transit, highlighting its growing significance in boosting regional connectivity and economic stability.
Speaking at a press conference at the Government Media and
Information Center, ministry spokesperson Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad said the
Chabahar Port plays a key role in facilitating Afghanistan’s exports and
imports and in reducing the country’s dependence on other transit routes.
Jawad recalled that in the past, when trade routes through
Pakistan were blocked, Afghan export goods frequently spoiled and the prices of
imported commodities sharply increased. He said the ministry is now working to
identify and activate additional transit corridors to ensure smooth trade and
minimize reliance on any single route.
He added that expanding the use of Chabahar Port will
strengthen Afghanistan’s trade resilience, enhance export capacity, and support
long-term economic development despite regional challenges.
