The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan’s national football team will play Pakistan on Thursday in a 2027 Asian Cup qualifying match in Islamabad. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. local time.
Afghanistan is competing in Group E of the third round of
qualifiers alongside Myanmar, Syria and Pakistan. The team has lost both of its
previous matches in the group — 2-1 to Myanmar on March 24 and 1-0 to Syria on
June 9.
The qualifiers feature 24 teams divided into six groups,
with only the top team from each group advancing directly to the 2027 Asian
Cup. Teams play each other on a home-and-away basis.
The six group winners will join 18 teams that have already
qualified to complete the 24-team lineup for the continental tournament.
