The Kabul Tribune (KT)— Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Investment president, Seyyed Karim Hashemi, met with Jeffrey Grieco, president and CEO of the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC), and several chamber members to discuss expanding trade relations and investment opportunities between the two countries.

According to a statement of the ACC, the meeting, held at the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment’s headquarters in Kabul on Sunday, focused on strengthening private-sector ties, expanding economic cooperation and attracting investment in major development projects.

Hashemi welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between the Afghan and U.S. private sectors. He said establishing large joint-stock companies with participation from domestic and foreign investors could help finance major economic projects.

Highlighting Afghanistan’s economic potential, Hashemi called on American businesspeople and investors to explore opportunities in infrastructure and industry, particularly oil refining, mining, mineral processing and large-scale manufacturing.

Grieco praised the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment’s efforts to promote trade and investment. He also highlighted the fifth Imam Abu Hanifa National and International Exhibition, saying the event’s broad participation by businesspeople, industrialists and representatives from neighboring and regional countries provided an opportunity to showcase Afghanistan’s economic potential and strengthen commercial ties.

Grieco proposed organizing specialized discussions and panels on economic issues, encouraging businesspeople to participate in regional and international conferences, and expanding engagement with global economic institutions to promote commercial cooperation.

Several members of the Afghan-American Chamber of Commerce also shared their views and proposals on expanding trade relations and identifying opportunities for joint investment.

The meeting underscored efforts by business representatives to strengthen economic links and encourage greater private-sector investment in Afghanistan.
