The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said Friday that the Taliban must demonstrate through their actions that they have taken steps against the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch insurgents as security concerns remain a priority amid the continued closure of border crossings with Afghanistan.
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Dar said
Pakistan “wishes the best” for the people of Afghanistan but expects the
Taliban to ensure that Afghan territory is not used for attacks against Pakistan.
He acknowledged that the continued closure of the border had
caused agricultural produce to spoil but said protecting Pakistan’s national
security was non-negotiable.
The Taliban have not yet commented on Dar’s latest remarks.
They have previously rejected as baseless Islamabad’s allegations that TTP
militants operate from Afghanistan and have described Pakistan’s security
problems as an internal matter.
The border closures have disrupted trade and movement
between the two neighboring countries, while both sides have traded accusations
over security concerns and militant activity.
