The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iranian authorities executed three prisoners, including two Afghan nationals, at a prison in the northeastern city of Mashhad, a human rights group said Thursday.

The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said Ansar Nami, 52, and Nazif Rasoulkhandeh, 46, both Afghan nationals, were executed at Mashhad Central Prison, also known as Vakilabad Prison, at dawn Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The two men were convicted in connection with the killing of two people at an unfinished building about two years ago and were sentenced to death under Iran's qisas, or retributive justice, laws, according to Hengaw.

The rights group said the executions were carried out without the men being granted a final visit with their families.

A third prisoner, 22-year-old Omid Rakhshani of Mashhad, was executed at the same prison on the same day, Hengaw said. He had been convicted of murder and sentenced to death under qisas laws.

Iranian state media and judicial authorities had not publicly announced the three executions.

The executions could not be independently verified.
