The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Three young men drowned while swimming in a river in Afghanistan's central Daikundi province on Wednesday, Aug. 5, the Taliban's provincial media office said.

According to the Taliban's media office, the victims, aged between 21 and 22, drowned at around 4:30 p.m. in the Lazir River near Jozak village on the outskirts of Nili, the provincial capital.

The office said search efforts lasted for about two and a half hours before the bodies were recovered and handed over to their families.

Drowning incidents are common in Afghanistan during the summer months as people swim in rivers, reservoirs and other open waters. Deep water, limited swimming skills and the lack of adequate safety measures are among the main factors contributing to such accidents.
