The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an armed group opposed to the Taliban, said Wednesday that clashes with Taliban forces broke out in Zebak district of northeastern Badakhshan province on Wednesday afternoon and lasted for about four hours.
In a statement, the AFF said Taliban forces launched an
assault on its positions, which the group said it repelled before carrying out
counterattacks from multiple directions using light and heavy weapons.
The AFF said its preliminary battlefield assessment showed
five Taliban fighters were killed and 11 were wounded. It said none of its
fighters were killed or injured and that its positions remained under its
control.
The Kabul Tribune could not independently verify the claims. The Taliban had not commented on the reported fighting by the time of publication.
