The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said it has so far allocated land to 65,154 Afghan returnee families to build homes and settle permanently in Afghanistan.

The ministry said in a statement Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, that the land allocation process is continuing in several provinces.

According to the ministry, 60 townships have been designated across 29 provinces to accommodate Afghan returnees. Land distribution is underway in some of the townships, while technical preparations are continuing in others.

The development comes as the number of Afghans returning from neighboring countries has increased in recent months, raising demand for permanent housing, employment and basic services.

Providing residential land to returnee families is considered an important step toward their long-term settlement and reintegration.
