The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Two people were killed in a traffic accident in southern Afghanistan's Zabul Province, Taliban police said on Saturday.
According to the Taliban's provincial police command, the crash occurred late Friday in Shahr-e Safa district on the Kabul–Kandahar Highway when a trailer truck collided with a Toyota Premio passenger car.
The victims were residents of neighboring Helmand Province, the statement said.
The incident came a day after another traffic accident in Farah Province left one person dead and two others injured.
Traffic accidents claim hundreds of lives in Afghanistan each year. Poor road conditions, failure to observe traffic laws, reckless driving, and mechanical problems are among the leading causes of such crashes. The Kabul–Kandahar Highway is one of the country's busiest roads and has frequently been the site of deadly accidents.
