The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Parwan-Bamiyan Highway has reopened to traffic after floodwaters and debris that blocked sections of the road in Parwan province were cleared, Taliban officials said.
Taliban provincial spokesman Sayed Hikmatullah Shamim said the highway, which had been closed following flooding in parts of Shinwari and Siah Gerd districts, was reopened at 12 a.m. after cleanup operations were completed.
According to Shamim, crews removed mud and other debris left behind by the floods, allowing traffic to resume normally. He said all obstacles caused by the flooding in affected sections of the two districts have now been cleared.
The Parwan-Bamiyan Highway is one of the main transport routes linking Afghanistan's central provinces with Kabul. Its closure disrupted the movement of travelers and the transportation of goods for several hours.
Heavy rainfall in recent days has triggered flooding in several Afghan provinces, overflowing waterways and forcing the temporary closure of a number of major roads. Taliban officials have attributed the recent floods to seasonal downpours and rising water levels.
