The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has reported that three Afghan nationals living in Iran have been sentenced to death by a Revolutionary Court in Isfahan over allegations linked to the January 2026 protests. The report comes days after the reported secret execution of another Afghan detainee in the same case.
According to Hengaw, Afshar Shahahmadi, Iman Shafaei and
Sadraddin Ahmadzadeh were recently sentenced to death by a branch of the
Isfahan Revolutionary Court on charges of participating in the burning of a
police station during the protests.
Sources cited by Hengaw said the three men were arrested by
Iranian security forces on Jan. 10, 2026, in Isfahan. They were reportedly held
for 40 days at a Ministry of Intelligence detention facility without access to
their families or the outside world.
The report said Shafaei, who had a pre-existing respiratory
illness before his arrest, developed severe asthma after prolonged
interrogations and the alleged denial of adequate medical care while in
detention. He is reportedly still being denied the treatment and medication he
requires.
According to Hengaw, Shahahmadi and Shafaei had been living
in Isfahan with their families, while Ahmadzadeh had traveled to Iran for work.
Hengaw also reported that two defendants in the so-called
"Alikhani Square case" were secretly executed at Isfahan Central
Prison on July 19, 2026. One of those executed was identified as 23-year-old
Afghan national Gol Mohammad Mohammadi.
Iranian authorities have not publicly commented on the
reported death sentences or the allegations outlined by Hengaw. The claims
could not be independently verified.
