The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban's Herat Municipality says it plans to implement 80 major development projects across the city during the 2026 fiscal year, with a total estimated value of nearly AFN 1 billion.
Speaking at a press conference, municipal officials said the projects will be financed through the municipality's own budget.
According to the officials, 27 projects have already entered the implementation phase, 25 are undergoing procurement, and 18 are in the survey and technical design stage.
The planned projects include road construction, commercial underpasses, commercial and administrative buildings, retaining walls, street lighting systems, irrigation canals, and the preparation of detailed urban development plans for two new municipal districts in Herat.
Officials said the projects are intended to improve urban infrastructure, expand public services, and support the city's long-term development.
Herat is one of Afghanistan's largest commercial and economic hubs, serving as a key trade gateway with neighboring Iran and Central Asia. In recent years, local authorities have launched a series of infrastructure and urban development projects aimed at improving transportation, municipal services, and the city's capacity to accommodate continued population growth and economic activity.
