The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Five Afghan nationals were executed in Iran during June 2026, according to a monthly report released by the human rights organization Hengaw.

The organization said the Afghan citizens were executed in different parts of Iran after being convicted of drug-related offenses and other crimes. It did not disclose their identities or provide additional details about the cases.

According to the report, Iranian authorities have not officially announced the executions.

The report comes after Iran transferred 753 Afghan prisoners, including nine inmates sentenced to death, to Taliban authorities last month to serve the remainder of their sentences in Afghanistan.

Iran has faced sustained criticism from international human rights organizations in recent years over its high number of executions. Rights groups say Afghan nationals account for a significant proportion of foreign citizens executed in the country.
