The Kabul Tribune (KT) — At least four people were killed, eight injured and 10 remain missing after a truck carrying migrants veered off a highway and plunged into a river in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, according to a Taliban provincial media office.

The accident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday in the Kheirokhel area along the Kabul-Jalalabad Highway, the office said.

According to the statement, the truck left the road due to driver negligence before falling into the river.

Initial information indicates that rescue teams recovered the bodies of four victims and rescued eight injured people from the water, while search efforts continue for 10 others who remain unaccounted for.

Local Taliban officials said search-and-rescue operations are ongoing, with emergency responders and volunteers working at the scene.

The Laghman provincial media office said additional details will be released after authorities complete their investigation.
