The Kabul Tribune (KT) — World Food Programme said Indonesia has donated 400 metric tons of fortified biscuits to Afghanistan to support the nutrition and education of 170,000 schoolchildren.
According to the U.N. agency, the shipment has arrived in Afghanistan and will be distributed to primary schoolchildren in remote areas as part of its school feeding program.
John Aylieff, WFP's country director in Afghanistan, said delivering the assistance was a major logistical challenge, requiring the shipment to travel more than 15,000 kilometers by land and sea through nine countries before reaching Afghanistan.
He said the biscuits have now reached children attending primary schools in remote communities and will help improve their nutrition, health and ability to concentrate in class amid the country's severe hunger crisis.
Aylieff thanked the government and people of Indonesia for the contribution, describing it as a joint effort to combat hunger in Afghanistan.
