The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan's Taliban-led Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has denied reports that it plans to restrict the use of smartphones or has allocated funding for such measures.

In a statement issued Thursday, the ministry said claims circulating in some media outlets and on social media, including remarks attributed to Communications Minister Abdul Ahad Fazli, were false and had no official basis.

The ministry said neither its leadership nor the minister had announced any policy or decision to limit the use of smartphones in the country.

It urged journalists and social media users to verify information before sharing it and to rely on the ministry's official channels for accurate updates.

Rumors of possible restrictions on smartphone use and reports that the government had set aside a budget to implement such measures had circulated widely in recent days. The ministry's statement rejected those claims, saying no such plan had been approved or announced.
