The Kabul Tribune (KT) — More than 2,500 Afghan migrants returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan on Monday, the Taliban-run Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues said.
According to the commission, a total of 2,523 migrants,
comprising 472 families, entered the country through multiple border crossings.
Hamdullah Fitrat said 375 families returned via the Torkham
crossing in Nangarhar, 37 families through Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 44 families
through the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz, and 16 families via Islam Qala in
Herat.
The report added that 595 families were transferred to their
home provinces, while 623 families received cash assistance.
The commission also said hundreds of families were provided
with SIM cards, while others received health care, food assistance, and public
awareness services. In addition, 1,001 families were allocated residential
plots.
The returns come amid an increase in deportations of Afghan
migrants from Iran and Pakistan in recent years, as authorities in both
countries have emphasized the repatriation of undocumented Afghans, leading to
a steady rise in the number of returnees.
