The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Marco Rubio has said that negotiations with Iran over a potential agreement may require more time to reach a resolution.
Reuters reported that Rubio made the remarks a day after U.S. forces conducted strikes on targets in southern Iran.
He said the Strait of Hormuz must remain open “by any means necessary,” stressing the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation through the key maritime route.
Despite a ceasefire announced in early April, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that it had carried out additional strikes to protect American forces against what it described as “threats from Iranian forces.”
Rubio previously told reporters in New Delhi that the United States would allow diplomacy sufficient time to succeed before taking further action, but warned that alternative options would remain on the table if negotiations fail.
