The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The paving of the Kunar–Nuristan road is set to officially begin next week, according to the Taliban’s provincial spokesman in Nuristan, Faridoun Samim.

He said the Ministry of Public Works conducted a field inspection of ongoing development work on the route and decided to move forward with asphalt paving after 22 kilometers of the road were prepared for the next phase of construction.

Samim added that the road will be paved with a width of nine meters, as part of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in eastern Afghanistan.

The Kunar–Nuristan road is considered a key strategic route in the country’s eastern region, connecting remote mountainous areas and playing an important role in boosting local trade, mobility, and economic connectivity. The project has long been a major demand of residents in the region.
