The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that Iran had targeted vessels from multiple countries, including a South Korean cargo ship, amid ongoing maritime tensions.
Trump wrote that Iran had taken “shots at unrelated nations” in connection with ship movements under what he described as “Project Freedom,” a U.S. initiative aimed at securing maritime routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that U.S. forces had shot down seven Iranian “fast boats,” claiming they represent a significant portion of Iran’s remaining naval capabilities. According to Trump, aside from the South Korean vessel, no ships had sustained damage while passing through the strait.
Trump also announced that Pete Hegseth and Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, would hold a news conference the following morning to provide further details.
The remarks come as tensions remain high in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, where the United States has increased its efforts to ensure maritime security amid ongoing disputes with Iran.
