The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban Ministry of Public Works said nearly 874,000 metric tons of goods were transported through Afghanistan’s railway network during March 2026.
In a statement, ministry spokesperson Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas said a total of 873,981 metric tons of goods were moved via rail during the month.
He said 9,285 metric tons of the total consisted of Afghan
exports, including dried fruits and pomegranate juice shipped to several
countries, while the remaining volume included imports of petroleum and
non-petroleum goods brought into Afghanistan.
According to the ministry, the shipments were carried out through
key rail routes including Hairatan Railway Station, Aqina Port, Torghundi Port
and the Khaf-Herat Railway.
The rail network has become an increasingly important
corridor for trade, facilitating both exports and imports as Afghanistan seeks
to expand regional connectivity and reduce reliance on road transport.
