The Kabul Tribune (KT)— Pakistan’s army said 22 militants belonging to Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan were killed in a joint operation in the Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The English-language newspaper Dawn reported Friday that the operation was carried out three days earlier based on intelligence. It said heavy fighting broke out between security forces and armed militants.
In a statement, the army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said security forces killed 22 militants and seized weapons and ammunition.
The army said a 10-year-old child was also killed in firing by the militants.
Violence has increased in recent years in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring Balochistan province.
Pakistan has accused Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers of supporting militant groups, including Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. The Taliban have denied the allegations.
