The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Iran’s parliament speaker on Saturday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims of victory in the ongoing conflict and his assertion that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that if the United States continues its naval blockade, vessels would only be allowed to pass through the strategic waterway with Iran’s permission.
He also dismissed U.S. claims of success in both the conflict and ongoing negotiations, saying Washington had not achieved victory on either front.
Trump had earlier said the Strait of Hormuz was “reopened” despite the continued U.S. naval presence in the region. He also indicated that the naval blockade would remain in place even after a ceasefire.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
