The Kabul Tribune (KT) - The Taliban have administered discretionary punishments to three individuals in Kunduz and Ghazni, according to statements from the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the court said two people in Kunduz were punished on charges of “sodomy,” while one person in Ghazni was punished for “theft.”

The statement added that in Qala Zal district of Kunduz, one accused was given 30 lashes and sentenced to three years in prison, while a second accused received 25 lashes and was sentenced to six months in prison.

In a separate statement, the Taliban said that in Gelan district of Ghazni, a person accused of “theft” was given 30 lashes and sentenced to one year in prison.

Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have resumed carrying out public corporal punishments.

Human rights organizations and international bodies have repeatedly criticized these actions, but the Taliban say these are internal matters and should not be interfered with.
