The Kabul Tribune (KT) - Israeli and Lebanese officials are expected to meet in Washington on Tuesday as U.S. President Donald Trump pushes to ease weeks of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, according to Reuters.

The ongoing clashes have raised concerns about the stability of a fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Both Israel and Lebanon are facing increasing pressure from Trump to halt the violence, a demand that Iran has also emphasized in parallel negotiations expected to take place in Pakistan.

The situation escalated after Hezbollah launched missiles at Israel on March 2, shortly after the start of the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. In response, Israel intensified its airstrikes on Lebanon and expanded its ground operations in the southern part of the country.

The offensive has forced hundreds of thousands of Lebanese civilians to flee their homes, particularly from areas Israel considers strongholds of Hezbollah.

The upcoming talks in Washington are seen as a key step in reducing tensions and preventing further escalation in the region, Reuters reported.
