The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Wall Street Journal reported, citing informed sources, that Iran has told regional mediators its participation in upcoming talks in Islamabad with U.S. representatives is conditional on a ceasefire in Lebanon.

According to the report, Tehran warned it could reverse its decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if attacks continue. Iranian mediators also cautioned that if Israeli strikes on Iran and Lebanon persist, Tehran may continue retaliatory attacks across the region, including against Israel.

The developments come as the United States and Iran have agreed to a two-week ceasefire aimed at halting hostilities and creating space for diplomacy. However, the Israeli military has said that despite accepting the ceasefire with Iran, it will not halt ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif urged restraint, citing reports of scattered ceasefire violations, and called on all sides to allow diplomacy to play its central role in achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
