The Kabul Tribune (KT) - Donald Trump, the U.S. president, said American forces carried out a major airstrike targeting Iranian military sites on Kharg Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said on Truth Social that United States Central Command conducted what he described as “one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East,” claiming that all military targets on the island were “totally obliterated.”
He added that despite the power of U.S. weapons, he chose not to destroy the island’s oil infrastructure “for reasons of decency.”
However, Trump warned that if Iran or any other actor interferes with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would reconsider that decision.
Kharg Island is considered one of Iran’s most important oil export hubs, with a large portion of the country’s crude oil shipped to global markets through facilities located on the island.
