The Kabul Tribune (KT) - António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has warned about the deteriorating global human rights situation, saying that widespread human suffering is increasingly being treated as a normal occurrence.
In a post on X, Guterres stated: "We're living in a world where mass suffering is excused away, humans are used as bargaining chips, and international law is treated as an inconvenience. Let’s end the broad and brutal assault on human rights. Because a world that protects human rights protects itself."
He emphasized that sidelining international law poses a serious threat to global security and stability. Guterres called for an end to what he described as a “broad and brutal assault on human rights” and urged nations to honor their international obligations.
In recent years, human rights violations in various parts of the world — including Afghanistan — have become one of the most pressing challenges for the international community.
