Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has reaffirmed his support for the rights of women and girls worldwide.
In a post on X, he wrote: “We must open the doors of opportunity for women & girls around the world. We cannot & will not give in to the disturbing pushback on their rights & the hard-won gains in equality, participation & protection.
They are essential to build a more equitable, peaceful & just future.”
Guterres warned against surrendering to the alarming rollback of women’s rights, stressing that hard-won achievements in equality, participation, and protection must be preserved.
He emphasized that women and girls play a vital role in shaping a fair, peaceful, and just world, adding that peace and justice cannot be achieved without their active participation.
