The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Bipartisan lawmakers in the United States are moving to restrict President Donald Trump from taking unauthorized military action against U.S. allies, Fox News reported.
According to the report, the effort aims to draw clear legal
limits on the president’s ability to initiate military actions without
congressional approval, particularly in matters involving allied nations.
“This is about our fundamental shared goals and our
fundamental security, not just in Europe, but in the United States itself,”
Democratic Rep. Bill Keating of Massachusetts was quoted as saying.
Fox News said the proposal reflects growing concern among
lawmakers from both parties about preserving congressional oversight over
military decisions and preventing unilateral actions that could strain
relations with allies.
The development comes amid broader debates in Washington
over the balance of power between Congress and the White House on matters of
national security and foreign policy.
