The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Four members of a local peace committee were shot dead by armed attackers in Bannu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistani media reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred earlier in the day in the Gul Baldin area of Lundi Dakk, according to reports. Police officials said the victims were traveling in a vehicle when armed assailants opened indiscriminate fire on them.
All four victims were killed at the scene. Police said two of those killed were father and son.
Local sources said peace committees in the area have taken up arms to defend themselves against militant groups, as the security situation in the region remains highly volatile.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack, but it remains unclear whether the incident was an act of terrorism.
The attack comes amid a recent surge in assaults targeting members of peace committees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In November 2024, seven people were killed in an attack on a peace committee office in Bannu, while in October 2024, another committee member was killed during a clash with militants in the Ahmadzai area of the district.
